I Walk in Support of My Brother, Kevin

The most challenging part of my brother’s diagnosis is seeing what this does to my parents; it is really hard for them to have a sick kid and feel powerless over what they can do.
We put a lot of things on pause. We set up a whole schedule to ensure someone was with Kevin every day during his treatments. We are a very close family, so it was super demanding on our time. Knowing that our family can come through this stronger than when we started has been a good and positive perspective.

We were inspired, as a family, to do Light The Night. It was a very emotional experience and in some ways overwhelming. My brother only cried twice during his diagnosis, and one of the times was during Light The Night when he got to stand with the other survivors. It was very powerful. My brother's doctor and his family were also there, so Kevin felt a lot of support from his medical team.

This is a horrible disease! One of Kevin's doctors noted that blood cancer is one of the only cancers where the chemo might actually make you feel better, because your blood is everywhere making you sick. The research and the community are just so important.

Knowing that our family can come through this stronger than when we started has been a good and positive perspective.

Do you have a story to tell?

As a supporter, in memory, or as a survivor… share with others why you are helping end blood cancers by participating in a Light the Night Walk
