Canada
It was in September 2016 that Canadian National Institute Of Health (CNIH) lost its fearless leader, Kathleen Foran, a woman whose passion, conviction, and vibrant spirit left a lasting mark on all who knew her. To us, she was a mentor and a friend. To her family, she was a beloved wife and devoted mother. To the profession of sonography, she was a tireless advocate and a true force for good.
Kathleen’s laugh was infectious, her energy unforgettable, and her determination unwavering. She didn’t just lead, she championed. Whether it was fighting for her students, supporting her faculty, or pushing to raise the standards of our field, Kathleen led with heart and integrity. As the Program Director at CNIH, she shaped the future of sonography education in Canada and inspired a generation of students to reach higher.
Kathleen believed deeply in giving back to the profession she loved. That same spirit of giving lives on through CNIH’s continued support of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Each year, we walk in her memory, not only to honour her legacy but to help move the needle forward in research, treatment, and hope for others facing blood cancers.
We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the incredible team at The Ottawa Hospital General Campus. Their care, compassion, and commitment meant the world to Kathleen and her family.
Research is not just important, it is critical. It’s what gives families more time, gives patients more options, and gives all of us more hope. That’s why we walk. That’s why we remember. That’s why we continue.
Kathleen, your light still leads us.
