At Long Life, we know that building something meaningful takes teamwork, strength, and heart. That’s true in construction and it’s true in life.
In 2010, our founder, Pat Alexander, was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. After completing his first cycle of treatment in 2011, he and his family joined Light the Night. What they found was more than an event - it was a community of support, remembrance, and resilience.
Since then, the Alexander family has walked every year, joined by their children Kris and Katie. In 2020, Pat was named Vancouver’s Honoured Hero, and in 2021, Kris and Katie proudly Co-Chaired the walk, carrying their family's mission forward and giving back to the community that once carried them.
Today, Kris leads Long Life, following in his father's footsteps and continuing the legacy of both building and giving back.
“Light the Night has become an important event for me,” says Pat. “It’s filled with magic—the symbolically coloured lanterns, the feeling of unity, and the chance to share this powerful experience with others.”
This walk matters - to us as a family, as a business, and as a team. It’s why we’re proud to take part in the Construction Challenge, uniting our industry under one mission: to help build a future without blood cancer.
Just as every trade plays a vital role in bringing a building to life, every person who walks or donates helps build hope—for patients, for families, and for survivors like Pat.
We walk for our community. We walk for those still fighting. We walk because we believe in a cure.
